The Rise of School King: How to awake your students' interest

The start of School King began with a scientific research. The original objective was to identify the effect of game mechanics and current social networks when applied to students' homework. The result of the research was to understand what kind of change they promoted in behavior. At the time, there were no solutions in the market that applied these techniques.

When we applied our prototype for the first time in a math classroom, we asked the teacher to share his observations. We were all shocked when we heard his response. "Look, there's a strange thing going on. Something I didn't expect. My students started asking for extra homework activities, right in the middle of math class. And I hadn't seen this before. I didn't even think that that was possible." After this discovery, we could not let our prototype remain only as a research project. We knew it had the potential to be so much more. It was a necessity to introduce it to other schools and enhance it to a point that any teacher, no matter how fearful of technology, could use it in a simple way.

Thus was born the startup School King and side by side with teachers we arrived at the application that we offer for students today and the teacher's platform. Today we even have a team to help teachers apply these gamified and up to date classroom techniques as an active teaching methodology with just a click of a button.


So School King is an educational games startup?

Our team focuses on disengaged students who seem uninterested in the educational aspects of school. We understand that even with the best resources and amazing lesson plans, most students would throw that all away for video games or social media.

Even though some students are already stimulated by academics, they are dealing with the repercussions of being in out dated schools. Imagine the possibilities of a student who has developed more skills and knowledge than some school teachers. For example, there are many skills needed to be a social media influencer. Video editing is one of these skills. Video editing is a skill which many school teachers haven’t mastered, but students still learn how to by using poor quality Youtube videos. Even though the students don’t have the best resources, they still want to learn because they have developed an interest. We believe gamified homework can give a similar effect. Each assignment provides an immediate visual, sound, and social reward.

As students complete more assignments and accumulate points, their character increases levels and their progress is visible to classmates. This can stimulate a healthy competition and work as another incentive for students to complete their work. All characteristics of the digital world need to be understood and taken advantage of in favor of students' academic careers. School King is working to meet this goal and hopefully help all students learn in a fun way.
